Circle

A safe space for children and young people to talk about mental health

Crisis Intervention for Children & Young People

Referral form

Circle is a hub space and café that offers support for young people in Ealing who are at, or near crisis point with their mental health.

Most of the young people attending A&E for mental health support are dealing with anxiety, depression, self-harming behaviour and suicidality risks. The earlier a young person gets support for their mental health, the more effective that support will be.

That’s why Circle exists: to provide mental health support early, and prevent things getting worse.

Who is Circle for: Children and Young People aged 5-18 who are in active mental distress

What and Where: Young people can come in for advice, support, or just to talk, with drop-in or appointment-based services.

Why Circle exists:

Instead of visiting A&E, where wait times can be long and they may not get specialised mental health support, children and young people can go to Circle. It has been designed to be a safe space in which children and young people can receive clinical support when they need it most in a relaxed, welcoming and calm environment.

The space has been designed in conjunction with young people who are part of our Young Voice programme, helping to shape our services.

We’ve also worked closely with parents, carers and local partner agencies, including Community CAMHS teams, CAMHS Crisis teams, social care, youth liaison and diversion teams, drug and alcohol services, and NHS North West London CAMHS Provider Collaborative.

Circle Designs:

What is at Circle?

  • 2 therapy rooms for 1-1 consultations and meetings
  • A sensory room
  • Open space for groups and workshops
  • Café and welcoming reception area
  • Small outside courtyard space
  • Space accessible to public transport

Circle’s Aims:

  • To reduce the number of young people presenting to A&E in crisis.
  • To provide a safe space and clinically trained staff to help young people who visit Circle in an emotional or mentally overwhelmed state to de-escalate their heightened state of distress.
  • To provide a space where young people and parents can be supported and guided to access appropriate services.
  • Prevent children and young people going into an acute crisis state requiring emergency hospital-based intervention or support.

Circle has been featured in the Evening Standard, read the article on the need for crisis intervention services for young people here.

Circle is funded by the North West London CAMHS Provider Collaborative.
