What’s the Commitment?
Signed by more than 3000 UK employers, the Mental Health at Work Commitment is a simple framework that builds on what we know works. It’s based on the Thriving at Work standards, pulling from the pledges and standards that are already out there, using up-to-date research, from UK employers and mental health experts.
We believe the Mental Health at Work Commitment, and the 6 standards which underpin it, are a roadmap that can support any organisation to achieve better mental health outcomes for their people.

Why make the Commitment?
Organisations who sign the commitment lead the way in implementing each standard for their people. Along with each standard are ideas to get you thinking and tools to get you started — all aiming to make it easier for organisations big and small to implement each standard and drive change.
But beyond that, it’s a way of showing your values. By signing your organisation up to the Commitment, you’re declaring publicly that mental health at work is a priority for you — and you’re joining the growing movement of likeminded employers, businesses and organisations across the UK.
The 6 standards
This framework sets out 6 clear standards based on what best practice has shown is needed to make a difference. Using these, you can create an environment where employees can thrive. Each standard has a set of actions that help you achieve the commitment.
Standard 1: Prioritise mental health in the workplace by developing and delivering a systematic programme of activity.
Standard 2: Proactively ensure work design and organisational culture drive positive mental health outcomes.
Standard 3: Promote an open culture around mental health.
Standard 4: Increase organisational confidence and capability.
Standard 5: Provide mental health tools and support.
Standard 6: Increase transparency and accountability through internal and external reporting.
