Co-production and participation means everyone working together as a team at every stage of the design, delivery, and evaluation of the organisation and our services.
Co-production at HFEH Mind should be engaging, accessible, meaningful, and genuine. Above all, everyone’s voices and needs should be reflected in all decisions and ultimately the final service, ensuring we have the most meaningful impact on people’s lives.

Adult Services Co-Production Group
The Co-Production group is made up of service users, service providers and volunteers, working together as project participants. Together, we create ideas to improve HFEH Mind services. This consists of a wide range of activities such as creating promotional material and resources, completing surveys, attending focus groups and co-designing training.
The Co-Production Group meets once a month online.
The HFEH Shakti Project
HFEH Shakti Project is a group co-designed by people of colour, with the aim to support individuals from underrepresented communities and other ethnic minorities. The group combines elements of peer support and co-production. We provide a safe and non-judgmental space to have meaningful discussions around improving services, and improving and empowering ourselves.
The HFEH Shakti Project meets twice a month online and once a month for in-person enrichment trips and outings.
The Service User and Carer Subcommittee
In our mission to have service user involvement in every aspect of HFEH Mind, we run a Service User and Carer Subcommittee. This committee meets on a quarterly basis to discuss the topics and decisions made by our other committees and, ultimately, our board of directors. This opportunity is a chance to influence HFEH Mind at its highest level, shaping our services and strategy and making sure the service user voice is present in everything we do.
Experts by Experience
Experts by Experience was an opportunity for service users to
deliver training about the topics that matter most to them. Each step was supported by staff, and training was fully co-designed and delivered to our staff and local organisations, helping to shape HFEH Mind and various mental health services in the area.
Outcomes:
Our expert by experience delivered workshops centred around empathy in mental health practice, he has since gone on to write for blogs, newsletters and is working on self publishing a book based on how empathy and mental fitness can improve lives. You can read the Empathy blog here and find the full collection of blogs here.
Interview Panels
If you have had experience accessing mental health services, you can assist us with our recruitment process. By joining an interview panel, you have the opportunity to observe each candidate and ask questions. After the interview, you will complete a brief feedback form which will help the hiring manager make their decision.
Full training is provided before you start and ongoing support is available at all times. This is an ongoing opportunity and participants will be notified as and when interviews arise.
EDI – Equality Diversity Inclusion
Mental Health does not discriminate and neither do we. HFEH Mind are committed to making all services and all opportunities available and accessible for all.
Our EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) strategy is integral to ensuring we represent every single individual in our community, leaving no one behind in our fight for mental health.
All of our co-production opportunities are available to anyone who is interested. We are particularly interested in hearing from those from BAME and LGBTQ+ communities and those who feel underrepresented by local services and organisations.
