Amina Art Ansari
“Unconsciously, due to not hearing sounds since birth, art was an escape in school, an excuse to get away from special needs pressures and to avoid homework”
Amina Ansari is a local Hammersmith resident and British woman of Pakistani heritage who has had hearing difficulties since birth. She recently underwent cochlear implant surgery, which transformed her life from one of silence to one of sound. As an equal opportunity advocate she extends her artistic influence beyond the canvas.
Amina has garnering significant attention with her art workshops aboard the Royal Navy’s HMS Argyl, her British Army painting unveiling at the Ministry of Defence, and most notably her commissioned portraits of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, proudly displayed at Windsor Castle.

“Art for me as a child was perceived as ‘isolation’ and as an Adult I’ve accepted the term ‘In the Field of Art’, as it goes beyond ‘paintings’ only. There are dimensions of science, psychology, business, bridging gaps and much more – ART is a way of life and as an all rounder with different walks of life.

What does mental health mean to you?
“The term Mental Health translates to well-being, Philosophy as therapy, Ethical and Society pros and cons, such as cultural values and responsibilities. I see it as an Art, it can be interpreted in universal language across the globe, and keynotes to recognise it without being misunderstood and sincerity. For me, it comes to ‘Logics v Emotion’ and ‘Volume v Bakwaas (Rubbish)’, considering I recently had Cochlear Implants surgery and the journey behind it too. It is also a reversed psychology.”
What drives you?
Presenting opportunities to people of all backgrounds regardless of faith, skin colour, physical capabilities of any other unseen disability. It is about learning from and encouraging different perspectives to make each other better. It is on the leaders of each relative platform to pave the way forward to breaking down barriers and leading by example which provides the greatest impact.
Amina has a proven track record of using her art courses across the globe to aide and as an alternative to therapy through expression of art no matter what artistic capability. The forum is presented as fun through Amina’s own experiences of how she has seen the world through her alternative lenses due to her hearing difficulty since birth.
