FAULT LINES is an exhibition of original art by Damien McGinley which focuses on the issue of male suicide.
It features 13 original oil paintings of icons who took their own lives. From Van Gogh and Hemingway to Kurt Cobain and Keith Flint, the collection runs the spectrum of masculinity from macho to maestro.
The Exhibition runs from 22nd Jan – 17 April 2026, at the Irish Cultural Centre (ICC) in Hammersmith (5 Black’s Road, Hammersmith, London W6 9DT) and is free for the public with donations very welcome.
The projects focus is quite simple. To increase dialogue about men’s mental health. If we can manage that, who knows how many lines we can cross.
Official launch event FNL Vol 5 is on 5th Feb, get your tickets now.
The Artwork
Up close the images look like barcodes: as anonymous and abstract as graphs. Step back and those same images turn into human faces: instantly recognisable individuals united by a common, tragic theme.
The technique dates back to a portrait Damien made in 2000, watching the linear effect of rain against a background at night and how it accentuates the palette.
The portraits examine how the linear structure can respond to both the internal and external landscape of the collection.
Bringing the portraits to life
We have carefully crafted a Spotify playlist to accompany each Icon in the collection. QR Codes have been placed next to each portrait which link directly to a playlist related to each Icon. The Exhibition prompts the public to scan the QR code with their personal device, put on their ear phones and listen to a song from the playlist while gazing at each portrait.
‘We want people to be transported back to a personal memory, to pause and ponder on their own incredible life and journeys, and the life of the artist they are stood in front of.’ – Damien McGinley

Our Sponsors Hammersmith Broadway, Bradmore Square & Fulham Broadway, have kindly partnered with us to extend the reach of this thought provoking exhibition into the heart of their centres.
Together we will be hosting small impromptu gigs for local residents, commuters and shoppers at branded pianos installed at each site. An array of talks, workshops and community initiatives will happen over the duration of the exhibition for everyone to get involved with and learn more about mental health and wellbeing.
The pianos, kindly provided by exhibition partners Sherwood Phoenix, will also be there for the public to use at will with sheet music related to the Icons.
Anyone who posts a pic or video of themselves at the piano and posts it to social media tagging @HFEHMind enters our prize draw to win a signed limited edition print from the collection worth £1495.
